Denial, Thanks for listening

To the Editor:

The Planning and Zoning Commission's unanimous denial of the ARS Partners plan to overdevelop the Partrick Wetlands and our town is a very welcome event and should be cheered by all.

One commission in this town finally listened to the voice and concerns of the residents and acted justly. The well researched and written findings and resolution presented last week should stand up to the scrutiny of any court and force a full environmental study and testing of the land before we see any new proposal.

A hardy thanks should go out to Chairwoman Ellie Lowenstein, Director Kathy Barnard, the commissioners and staff for their diligence in putting together such a sound and reasoned document and decision.

But none of this would have occurred if not for the time and effort that every person who signed a petition, handed out a flyer, sent an email, wrote a check, attended a meeting or spoke at a hearing gave. This decision truly came about by the people making their concerns and desires known. Every person in this town should be able to draw strength from that fact. The empowerment of the people is now a reality and a new awareness of due process has emerged.

ARS will be back to attack the Partrick Wetlands again, the allure of a fortune to be made at the expense of the wetlands, the environment, the residents and this town is too great.

We'll be vigilant and ready.
